What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the science that deals with the study of skeletal changes during growth and later in adult life.
Skeletal changes also bring changes in the teeth. Skeletal growth changes can be influenced and improved in the pre-adolescent and early adolescent years, and later, after growth is complete, improvements can only be made at the dental level. Problems with alignment, malposition, crowding and dental spacing can be treated at any stage of development, including adults.
The first visit of a patient is made for diagnostic and preventive purposes around the age of 7 to 8 years. A common problem in children is a lack of space on the arch for the eruption of teeth, either due to the large size of the teeth, due to various environmental factors such as bad breath or finger sucking habits etc, or due to genetics.
