What is Parodontology?

Parodontology is the branch of dentistry that deals with the monitoring and therapy of the supporting structures of the teeth.

Parodontal disease is caused by general health disorders, unbalanced diet, poor hygiene, dento-maxillary abnormalities, vicious habits, inadequate dental treatment, untreated dental conditions, as well as unsustained drug and medication use.

Bacterial plaque is the major predisposing factor for severe periodontal disease and is also called silent-killer because of the absence of symptoms.

The parodontist diagnoses, observes, monitors and intervenes to stop the progression of periodontal disease. Undiagnosed and untreated in time they can lead to the loss of whole teeth. Treatments can be psychological, behavioural, medicinal and specialist.
