Pedodontics

What is Pedodontics?

When it comes to caring for your child’s smile, you need a doctor who understands the needs of the young patient.

Treatments of children’s teeth are important because any loss of baby (temporary) teeth causes various complications with the eruption of permanent teeth, with negative effects in adult life.

Milk teeth play an essential role in phonetic and facial development and allow the normal completion of the chewing process.

Unhealthy nutrition and poor hygiene can irreversibly damage the baby teeth and therefore the permanent teeth.

Children’s dental problems can be solved in our clinic in a pleasant way, both for children and their parents.
The children get acquainted with the dental unit as the elevator in the office and the vacuum cleaner is “Setila”, not a noisy machine.
Everything is explained in a way that the little ones understand, so that their fear disappears and visiting the dentist becomes a pleasure.
Operations performed:

  • Illings (fillings) in temporary teeth;
  • Fillings/sealings in permanent teeth;
  • Fluoridation;
  • Periaj dentar profesional;
  • Dental extraction;
  • Endodontic fillings of temporary teeth;
  • Treatment of dental emergencies (dental abscess, trauma).

When baby teeth appear and how to care for them?

Baby teeth erupt around 6 months of age. On a case-by-case basis, the eruption period can be staggered, meaning that teeth may erupt earlier or later than 6 months. If by the age of one year your child has not erupted any teeth, a visit to the paediatric dentist for a dental check-up is necessary.

An child oral cavity should be cleaned before the teeth erupt. Clean both the tongue and gums with sterile gauze twice a day or just after each meal to keep the oral cavity clean and to get the baby used to the routine. After the first tooth erupts, it should also be cleaned, and this time a special soft toothbrush can be used. To be able to brush your child’s teeth, they should be lying down in bed. Toothpaste should not be used for brushing very young children, and fluoride toothpaste should not be used for older children up to the age of 6.

When teeth can be cleaned to prevent tooth decay?

Parents need to be aware that their children’s teeth are prone to decay from the moment they appear in the oral cavity. As a result, decay prevention methods can be used soon after the eruption of baby teeth. As soon as the teeth emerge, brushing can begin and it is important that this is done before bedtime. Another important thing to know is that a baby should never fall asleep with a bottle in its mouth, except when it contains water. A bottle containing milk, formula or fruit juice damages the little ones teeth and makes them prone to decay, especially the front teeth (those that come into contact with the bottle).

How to control pain DURING TOOT BREAKS?

Children become anxious when they have pain, especially when their teeth erupt. One way to control them is by distracting the little ones, occupying them with various activities and chewing special rings to soothe the pain. At the same time, special anaesthetic gels can be used, accompanied by massaging the sore areas. Fever may also occur during the rash.

How to prepare a child for a visit to the dentist?

The child should be informed that he/she will go to the dentist who will heal the teeth. One way to relax him is by reading a funny book about visiting the dentist. The child is very curious so he should be told about the doctor-nurse team and their function in the practice. Never frighten the child that he will be taken to the doctor to have an injection for not being good or be told that he will be taken to the dentist as a punishment for not brushing his teeth. These statements frighten the child and he becomes uncooperative. Always speak positively about the dentist and plan ahead for regular check-ups.
